AUCTION Distinguised sale of militaria, Irish silver and movie memorabilia
Victor Mee Auctions is thrilled to announce a spectacular online auction today (Thursday), March 21.
The Battlefields and Silverscreens Sale will feature a catalogue brimming with superb military artefacts, a breathtaking assemblage of Irish Silver and an impressive private collection of original movie posters.
Militaria auctions are always a hit at Victor Mee Auctions, with collectors ever vying for few and far between remnants of battlefields and military history.
Top lots under this umbrella include an original Fenian Sash, framed and in exceptionally good condition. The sash, worn by members of the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB) in the 19th century, is made of silk and is of vibrant green and gold colours, bearing traditional embroidered symbols of nationalism. It marks a very rare entry to the catalogue and is sure to provoke interest from collectors with experts estimating it will make somewhere between €2,000 and €4,000.
Also up for grabs in militaria is an remarkable array of weaponry and firearms, along with some highly collectable items of Irish political history memorabilia including a 19th century UVF Veterelli Rifle stamped 'For God and Ulster'. It's guiding at €800 - €1200.
Lot 246 is a Turkish flintlock blunderbuss, inlaid with silver and mother of pearl, on stand. It carries an estimated of €200-€300.
Other interesting items include a decommissioned WWII 303 Rifle (€200-€400) a Sinn Fein Rebellion Handbook Easter 1916 Irish Times with maps (€200-€300), two Hanwei ceremonial short swords in original leather scabbards (€150-€250) and a Victorian iron bound Military Campaign Trunk 14th Hussars, property of Captain Knox Brittas Castle, Thurles (€200-€300) and a framed print of 1916 Leaders at 1921 All Ireland football final (€100-€200).
Heading to the rostrum in this sale is a magnificent private collection of original movie posters, of large proportions, including Gone with the Wind, Spartacus, Conan the Barbarian, Scarface, Jaws and Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange with prices starting at €140.
The catalogue boasts a stunning array of Irish silver. Rich in provenance, some highlights include an Irish silver campaign hip flask of tapered cylindrical form, hallmarked in Dublin 1894/95. maker Charles Lamb, Wt: 217grs; rare Art Deco Irish silver lidded entree dish, hallmarked in Cork with Cork Town mark, maker William Egan & Sons Ltd, Wt: 906grs.
