Where to go this St Patrick’s Day?

ARVA

Still savouring the success of their All-Ireland title, Arva promises have a wonderful atmosphere this St Patrick’s Day. Arva players and management will be amongst the Marshals, and will have all three cups with them – Cavan Champions, Ulster Champions & All Ireland Champions.

The parade sets off at 3pm on Main Street and with €2,000 up for grabs in prize money for the best floats, expect a great selection. Arva’s fantastic parade is always a huge success and keeps growing every year.

Join the fun at 3pm. Prizes for funniest, industrial, community, artistic and junior categories. Assemble at Smith’s Gala, Rakeelan. All individuals, groups, musicians and businesses welcome.

BAILIEBOROUGH

Bailieborough’s organisers welcome all floats: vintage cars, bikes, tractors, comedy floats, sports clubs, all business floats. It’s free to enter a float and there’s prizes for: Best Comedy Float €500, Best Club €300, Best Commercial Float €200 and a prize for Best Window. Also a marching band, comedy, fancy dress and lots more. The kids’ tractor run is back; all children must be accompanied by an adult. Meeting at 2pm outside Bailieborough Library.

Raffle tickets are on sale around the town with great prizes to be won! Organisers are also looking for stewards to help, please contact any committee members.

BALLYJAMESDUFF

As the main St Patrick’s Day parade in the southeast of the county, the Ballyjamesduff procession attracts patriotic revellers from a wide area, including Virginia. There’s always a great atmosphere. The fun starts at 4pm from Ballyjamesduff Mart. Free entry – register on the day. Prizes for best float.

COOTEHILL

Organised by the local Chamber of Commerce, the Cootehill parade begins at 3pm. Traffic restrictions will be in place from 1-5pm to facilitate the parade. Organisers are seeking volunteers to help steward the event: 086-2604163.

KILLESHANDRA

The town aims to make this year’s event even bigger and better by encouraging people to participate as “a family, a nation, a group of friends, or estate” and march in this year’s parade. With Killeshandra set to host the 2024 County Fleadh, expect some fleadhbulous traditional entertainment!

In addition to the Celt’s photographers, RTÉ will be on hand to capture some of the colour and festivities. For more information contact Padraig on 087-7605815. Parade takes off from the creamery at 12:30pm.

KILNALECK

Preparations are being finalised for this year’s parade, which is hoped to be one of the biggest ever. Everyone is welcome to take part and entry is free. It will start at 3pm from the Ball Alley on the Ballinagh Road and there will be lots of prizes on offer.

KINGSCOURT

One of the earliest parades to be hosted, the annual Kingscourt parade will set off around 1pm and is one of the biggest and most colourful in the north of the county.

This popular event is always a great time, with lively music, colourful floats, and plenty of excitement for all ages. There are prizes too for the best floats.

MULLAGH

Always a great family day out, the organisers anticipate a great selection of floats when the parade gets underway at 5pm.

All floats are asked to assemble in the Community Park on the Moynalty Rd and all vintage vehicles are asked to form a line from Mullagh Hall back towards the Community Park. More stewards are required. Contact a member of the Mullagh Development Committee on 087-7466606.

NEWTOWNGORE

Getting underway at 4:30pm, the Newtowngore parade offers prizes for the best three judged floats.

Also a prize for the best child’s fancy dress costume. While there is no charge to enter a float, organisers request participants confirm by today (Thursday) March 14.

A cake stall will be located in Gorby’s carpark with lots of sweet treats for sale. After the parade, DJ Paul will provide the entertainment in Gorby’s where there will also be a raffle with lots of spot prizes.

SWANLINBAR

The west Cavan town has established itself as one of the most fun events in the region, with humour very much to the fore in the display of floats. The parade will set off at 4pm. All floats to assemble at Creamery Road from 3:30pm. Prizes for best floats.
