Cavan crash victim to be laid to rest today
The funeral will take place today (Thursday) of a young man who died following a fatal road traffic collision yesterday.
Dylan Costin (24) from Diamond Court, Belturbet, was a passenger in a car involved in a collision with a truck on the N3 at Drumcrave on the Cavan bypass in the early hours of Monday morning, March 11.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident that occurred shortly before 3am. The driver of the vehicle, a woman aged in her 20s from the Ballyjamesduff area, was taken to Cavan General Hospital for treatment.
Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. No other injuries were reported, and the road was immediately closed off to traffic with diversions put in place.
The road remained closed right up until late Monday evening to allow for Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to complete an examination of the crash scene.
They’re now appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, including any road users who may have dash cam footage to make this available to investigating gardaí.
Mr Costin is survived by his mother Una, father Kevin, sisters Mary, Linda and Nicole; nephew James; nieces Casey, Mckenzie, Alanna, Sevanna and Kyle; brother-in-law Paddy; grandparents Mary Smith, Bernie and Eamon Costin; relatives and many friends.
His funeral mass to be celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Belturbet at 11:30am, today, Thursday, March 14. Cremation will take place afterwards in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan Town.
A number of tributes were paid to Mr Costin on RIP.ie and on social media when the sad news of his death spread.
Mr Costin’s death is the second to occur on Cavan’s roads to date in 2024, in a year that has seen a total of 40 people have died on Irish roads so far this year.
