Council to debate reinstatement of Bereavement Grant and vaccination for Shingles
The monthly meeting of Cavan County Council takes place in the local authority Chamber this afternoon.
Numerous items are on the agenda for discussion including calls from Cllr John Paul Feeley and Cllr Clifford Kelly on the Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly to introduce a vaccination programme for shingles.
Cllr Shane P O’Reilly plans to put forward a motion that will call on the Government to reinstate and increase the recently-cancelled Bereavement Grant.
Following on from the widespread disruption caused by recent storms, Cllr John Paul Feeley will ask that Cavan County Council discusses with the forestry companies, “the urgent programme of works needed” to remove trees close to powerlines.
He is also asking that the ministers for energy and agriculture amend existing regulations to protect services in communities from “reckless planting” of trees.
Cllr Brendan Fay will propose writing to the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris and the Data Protection Commission to request further information on the roll-out of CCTV in towns across Co Cavan.
And, Cllr Áine Smith will discuss the need for an Irish Officer in Cavan County Council to help promote the Irish Language. More details in this week’s Anglo Celt.
