Cloudy day with patches of light rain and drizzle

Unsettled for the rest of the week with rain or showers.

This morning and early afternoon will be mostly cloudy with mist and patches of light rain or drizzle. There will be a few bright intervals. Later this afternoon, rain will develop in Munster and Connacht and will extend eastwards across much of Leinster and south Ulster during the evening. The rain will be heavy at times in the southwest. Highest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees with light southerly or variable winds, freshening in the southwest by evening. Coastal flooding is possible due to unusually high tides.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy with mist and widespread outbreaks of rain or drizzle at first. The rain will become lighter and patchy in most places overnight. Lowest temperatures ranging between 3 degrees in the north and 10 degrees in the southwest. There will be a mostly moderate to fresh, variable wind, strong at times in the southwest. Coastal flooding is possible due to unusually high tides.

Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with mist and scattered outbreaks of rain or drizzle, heavy at times in the southwest. It will be breezy with a moderate to fresh southwesterly wind, strong in the west and northwest. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees. Coastal flooding is possible due to unusually high tides.

A band of more persistent rain will move into the west and northwest early on Tuesday night and will move southeast overnight, becoming lighter and more patchy. It will become dry with some clear spells in the northwest towards morning. Breezy with a moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly wind. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 10 degrees.

The rain will gradually clear southeastwards during Wednesday morning and most areas will become dry for a time in the afternoon, apart from a few showers in the northwest. More rain will move into the south during the evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with a mostly light to moderate southwest to west wind, increasing fresh to strong in the northwest.

Rain will spread northwards over the country on Wednesday night. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 8 degrees, with light to moderate easterly or southerly winds.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy and unsettled with rain or showers. Highest temperatures of 10 to 15 degrees with a moderate south to southwest wind.

Staying mostly cloudy on Thursday night with further rain or showers. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees with a moderate south to southwest wind.

Friday will be mostly cloudy with rain or showers in the morning but possibly becoming drier and brighter with some sunny periods later in the day. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly winds, becoming northwesterly.

The weekend: Continuing unsettled with rain followed by showers on Saturday, with those continuing into Sunday.
