'A victory for Joe and Mary Soap'- Cllr O'Reilly
Cllr O'Reilly critical of government.
Independent Ireland Councillor Shane P O'Reilly welcomed the high number of people the east of the county and Ballyjamesduff Municipal District area who exercised their franchise to vote on Friday.
He was particularly interested to see that in one box in his home town of Mullagh, at St Kilian's National School, that the 'no' vote appeared to show 93% in favour.
“I think its fair to say that going on today's results that the Irish people have a question over the durable relationship of Leo, Micheál and Eamon.”
Cllr O'Reilly voted yesterday, attending the polling station with his son Conor and two nieces casting their votes for the first time.
As he exited the station he says he met two more young first time voters, who “both shouted at me 'no no, up Shane P!'”.
Cllr O'Reilly, who a founding member of the Independent Ireland group that included several Tds- Michael Collins, Richard O'Donoghue and Michael Fitzmaurice- says: “Today is a victory for Joe and Mary Soap not to mention common sense. People are sending a message that enough is enough.”
