In the mail: Last post for Kathleen Corrigan

It's with regret that we note the death of a great friend of the Celt, Kathleen Corrigan, one of our regular letter writers. Her grand daughter Joanne sent us one last letter as a special tribute...

Madam,

I am writing to you on behalf of my gorgeous Nana, Kathleen Corrigan, who passed away on February 23 at the age of 99 years and only a few months shy of her 100th birthday. Nana Kathleen was a huge fan of The Anglo-Celt and she had a loyal fan base within the ‘Letters to the Editor’ section through various letters she had published over the years.

She had great flair when it came to putting her thoughts and stories into words and I’m sure that a lot of readers couldn’t help but be drawn to her quick wit, charm and warmth, and her remarkable ability to get a key message across in just a few short lines.

Kathleen was a huge fan of The Anglo-Celt and the lovely sense of community the ‘In the Mail’ section gave her. In her own words “it gave me a great lift” and she would be the first person to text all her children and grandchildren each time one of her letters was printed in the paper. She was a woman ahead of her time in so many ways, a forward-thinking and progressive lady and she had a way with words that was reflected in the ‘Letters to the Editor’ she penned. Her ability to keep up with the times was just a huge reflection of how young at heart she was.

Again, In her own words; “You are only ever as old as you feel!” She certainly had us all believing she was still half her age with the endless energy, wisdom and love she had for us all. I know my Nana is extremely grateful to you, The Anglo-Celt and all her lovely loyal readers. She was one of the strongest women I have ever known; she had a heart of gold; and she will be forever loved and missed by us all.

I know her lovely face would light up with a smile to see a letter published in her name one last time in The Anglo-Celt.

Yours Sincerely,

Joanne Corrigan
