Access to Cash Bill 'a win for people of Cavan'
The proposed Access to Cash Bill is a major victory for the people of Cavan.
That’s according to Aontu’s Gráinne McPhillips who says that the Bill, being brought to Cabinet by the Minister for Finance, Michael McGrath, will see cash retain its place in society and is a “win for people power and common sense”.
Ms McPhillips, originally from Drumnalaragh, Ballinagh, is the party’s candidate in the Ballyjamesduff LEA.
“Cash is the most inclusive way to pay for goods and services, so ensuring shops and pharmacies must accept it as payment is great news,” she said. “Cash does not discriminate by age or skill level, whether someone has internet access or not. Cash gives all citizens the ability to participate fully in society. That is one of the cornerstones of Democracy,” added Ms McPhillips.
She added that phone and internet coverage is extremely sketchy in many parts of Co Cavan and it would therefore be “shameful” to discommode the many thousands of people who live in rural areas.
A school principal, Ms Mc Phillips first ran for Aontú in the Ballyjamesduff electoral area in 2019, where she received almost 800 first preference votes.
