Snow on the way to Cavan and Monaghan as Met Eireann issues warning
A status 'Yellow' issued ahead of snow and icy conditions
A status Yellow - low temperature/Ice warning has been issued for Cavan and Monaghan and will come into effect at 6pm today, Monday.
The warning will be in place until 11am on Tuesday and weather conditions are expected to make driving difficult and lead to animal welfare issues.
It will be very cold locally this evening, tonight and on Tuesday morning with severe frost and icy stretches.
Met Eireann expects that frost and ice will be slow to clear and it may linger in some sheltered areas.
There will also be spells of winter sunshine along with well-scattered showers of rain, sleet and snow.
Highest temperatures of 1 to 4 degrees. Light, occasionally moderate northwest winds will be fresher at first in the north and northeast.
Tonight will become generally cloudy with outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow moving in from the northwest. Lowest temperatures of -3 to 0 degrees in light to moderate southwest to west winds.
