Cathaoirleach Philip Brady to offer to host a civic reception for Cavan Palliative Care

Council to offer reception to Palliative Care Fund

Cavan County Council is to offer a Civic Reception to honour the 30 years of support provided to local families of those facing end-of-life care by the Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care Fund.

Founded in 1993 by Belturbet-native Jimmy O'Donnell, the organisation has raising millions of euro to provide care to countless families across the two counties.

All funds raised are placed at the HSE-run Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care team’s disposal, to be used “as they see fit” in the care and comfort of those dealing with end of life diagnosis.

This includes everything from paying for taxi services, financial assistance in cases of hardship, provision of night nursing, automatic stair lifts, home help, and other requirements.

Apart from annual fundraising events, a considerable amount of money received comes directly through the efforts of relatives and friends of people who sadly passed away through illness.

At the January monthly meeting of Cavan County Council, Independent Shane P O'Reilly proposed that the local authority extend the offer of an honour to the organisation.

Cathaoirleach Philip Brady described it as a “great proposal”, himself lauding “the work they do” before noting that the council would write to the fund in hope that they will be accepting.
