Art picks: Cathal Brady

Cathal Brady

Organic vegetable grower. Drummer.

Best arts event: C O’Neill & Co at Townhall sticks out. Great to hear Ciaran belting out those great songs of his again. His single “How Do You Do” and accompanying video by Padraig Conaty - timeless stuff.

One to watch: Cruxty - Mike Paterson’s trad music project, ambitious in scale and home recorded. First single “Wassail to Thee” and a version of Planxty’s “Raggle Taggle Gypsy” the highlights. More, please!

Best film: An Cailín Ciúin. A masterpiece. Uplifting and heartbreaking all at once. Oscar nominated. Made on a modest budget funded by TG4 who do a considerably better job promoting and funding Irish culture than RTE (ahem).

Best TV: Food Matters. Six-part series on RTE where Mick Kelly (GIY Ireland) travels across the country exploring Ireland’s food sustainability. A must-watch for food producers.

Best music: CMAT’s rise to superstardom continues at pace. Her new album is strong and her live performances phenomenal. Check out her performance on The Graham Norton Show. She’s from Meath but we’ll not hold that against her.

Best podcast: The Guardian Football Weekly. Max Rushden & Barry Glenndenning - an odd couple talking about football events. Always a good laugh. Is Luka Modric tired yet?
