Sixty-six new citizens for Cavan
Minister for Justice welcomes granting of Irish citizenship to applicants.
A total of 66 of the more than 6,000 new Irish citizens to attend six separate Citizenship Ceremonies across Monday and Tuesday, December 18-19, are based in County Cavan.
Another 24 to attend events at the Convention Centre in Dublin were from neighbouring Co Monaghan.
Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has welcomed the granting of Irish citizenship the applicants from 131 countries around the world.
They are living in all 32 counties on the island of Ireland.
She attended the ceremonies on Monday and Minister of State James Browne attended on Tuesday.
Minister McEntee said: “Our new citizens enrich Ireland with their presence and our society reaps the benefits, which they bring.”
The Citizenship Ceremonies this week follow Ceremonies held in the RDS in March, Killarney in July and the Convention Centre in October.
Back then there were 38 applicants from Cavan.
It means that over 18,000 people have now been conferred with citizenship this year.
The presiding officers at the December ceremonies were retired Judge Mary Irvine (Monday) and retired Judge Paddy McMahon (Tuesday), who administered the Declaration of Fidelity to the Irish Nation and Loyalty to the State.
The majority of new Irish citizens are natives to India (1,115), followed by Brazil (425), the Philippines (366), the UK (349), and Nigeria (301).
Two to have Irish Citizenship conferred were from Fermanagh, 25 from Leitrim, 57 from Longford, and 220 from Meath.
