With Danny and Adrian Malanaphy at the helm, the company has rapidly expanded since it was established in 2020 from selling farm machinery to designing and manufacturing its own high-quality premium trailers.
The Malanaphy name, of course, has been synonymous with mushroom farming in this region for the past 20 years.
Managing Director Adrian heads up the innovation of new designs and overall growth of the business, while Therese manages operations and finance. Their sister Noeleen heads up marketing and brother Patrick, based in Australia, handles their rapidly growing export business Down Under. Dad Danny oversees production.
“The company designs, engineers and manufactures a wide range of trailers for agricultural, landscaping, construction and domestic customers,” explained Noleen on pitch night for the Business Awards.
“We have grown rapidly over the last three years because of the input of the entire family. The main backbone of our family is our mother. Although not directly involved in the business, she has been the sounding board for all of us since the company was set up. She also babysits and that allows us more time to dedicate to the business.”
The company’s innovation design recently won the safety agricultural award at the ploughing championships 2023. This acted as a “special boost” for the company as there was a global reunion with Therese and Patrick who both flew back from Dubai and Australia to showcase their innovative trailers.
Meanwhile, the business has been going from strength to strength. A new production line was launched in October 2023 creating 10 new jobs in a rural area.
M-TEC Engineering Ltd now produces 12 different types of trailer with over 50% of its products exported to the UK market. A contract has recently been signed for exporting to Australia and emerging European markets are also on the horizon.
“It would mean so much for us as a family to win this award; we believe Cavan has so much to offer; it has been a key location for us in terms of importing materials and exporting our products with direct routes to both Dublin and Belfast. Family business can be challenging at times but if you can make it work, it is an amazing journey,” concluded Noeleen.
M-Tec Engineering is a company to watch for the future, having achieved sales of €1.2m to the UK and a contract in Australia within just four years of being established.
