Winter decorative interiors sale at Mee’s
As we approach the festive season, the team at Cavan’s Victor Mee Auctions have put together a stunning catalogue of home interiors, fine furnishings, décor, artwork, rugs and even some beautiful garden ware, just in time to nab the perfect Christmas gifts.
The Winter Decorative Interiors Sale will take place tomorrow (Thursday), November 30, live online from 5:30pm. The striking sale will feature a 1930s'-inspired Ralph Lauren Duke Bar Cabinet, an original Percy French watercolour, a Rare 1940s' copper Otto Kind coffee dispenser and an 18-branch Waterford crystal chandelier.
Speaking ahead of the sale, auctioneer, Victor Mee, said: “We’ve composed this catalogue with the intention of closing the year on a high note. The calibre and quality of lots appearing here is incomparable and includes a very eclectic assortment of interior and exterior furniture and décor that we’re confident will charm every kind of buyer.”
Designer Show Stoppers
Lot 100 appearing is a Ralph Lauren Duke Bar Cabinet. Named after the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke Home collection by Ralph Lauren was launched in 2013 with this piece retailing for over €20,000 and this particular one was customized for a luxury super yacht in the South of France.
Inspired by the décor of the 1930s, it boasts a glossy rosewood finish with a stainless steel trim. It goes to auction with an estimate of €4,000-€8,000.
Staying with vintage style, a plethora of art-deco pieces will also go under the hammer. Lot 175 is a gorgeous pair of walnut and hand-dyed leather aviator club chairs (Est €2,000-€4,000). Lot 305 is a walnut and chrome lounging armchair with matching footstool (guiding €2,000-€4,000) that oozes chic and comfort.
A Cosy Christmas
As the winter cold sets in, the catalogue here brags an abundance of interior pieces to bring some warmth to your space. Consider formalising your fireplace with lot 373, an exceptional quality brass club fender with upholstered leather seating, (Est €1,200 – €1,800) or stylishly store your sticks in lot 109, an Irish mahogany spiral brass bound peat bucket in the Georgian style carrying an estimate of €1,600-€2,000.
When the fire roars, throw the feet up with lot 168, a pair of uber sophisticated deep buttoned leather upholstered library chairs on turned tapered legs. They are estimated to sell for €1,200-€1,800.
Moving to the kitchen, the very first lot appearing, lot 1, is a good quality limed oak serving table. Measuring at 185cm long and estimated at €400-€600, it features three drawers and ample storage underneath for the superb selection of copper cookware that also appears. Lot 8, for example is a set of five graduated copper saucepans with metal handles estimated at €80-€160.
Ambience
As ever with a Victor Mee Auctions interiors sale, lighting takes up a healthy portion of the catalogue. Lot 105 is a twinkling, elegant 18-branch, cut crystal Waterford chandelier, estimated at €3,000-€6,000.
Lot 31 is a rare pair of gilded metal wheat sheaf two branch wall lights (guiding €500-€800); while lot 156 is a brass and mahogany theatre lamp on tripod base (Est €400-€800).
Other notable interior pieces appearing include lot 75, a decorative kilim rug (Est €300-€600), lot 54 a striking chrome and cherrywood designer desk with leather top (Est €1,200-€1,500), lot 101, an exceptional quality giltwood sunburst mirror (Est €400-€800) and lot 589, an unusual coffee table in the form of a boat (Est €400-€600).
Adding to the ambience is a selection of incredible and rare artwork. Lot 172 is a Percy French watercolour, ‘Connemara Cottage’, estimated at €4,000-€6,000.
Lot 209, a Cecil Maguire ‘The Clocktower Irvinestown’ oil on board goes with an estimate of €2,000-€3,000; while lot 21 is a Jack B. Yeats framed pencil drawing from the Yeats Family Collection estimated at €800-€1,200.
Outdoor Winter Wonderland
Exquisite garden décor pieces are also included in the catalogue.
Lot 449, for example, is a very striking contemporary bronze sculpture of a Lady with arms folded raised on slate base (Est €1,500-€3,000); lot 110, The Wandering Man is estimated at €1000-€2000; while lot 508 is a lovely contemporary bronze curvy lady raised on a slate base (guiding €1,500-€3,000).
