Study to recommend Climate Action Hub for Cavan
The first step towards Cavan having a Climate Action Hub will be taken this afternoon with the launch of a feasibility study.
The hub in Cavan to help promote sustainable development and climate action in the county.
The study examines the viability of a Climate Action Hub in Cavan to help promote sustainable development and climate action in the county. However, the initiative encounters obstacles due to the limited acceptance of climate action on a large scale as well as a lack of priority given to climate action by stakeholders.
The study presents a plan for establishing a hub that acts as a centre point for current projects by Cavan County Local Development (CCLD). It suggests consolidating existing programmes under a climate action framework while also exploring new projects involving new climate action stakeholders from both sides of the border.
The study emphasises the importance of CCLD taking the lead in the start-up process, programme management, administrative tasks, and financial sustainability. Additionally, involving the Cavan Volunteer Centre and fostering new corporate social responsibility (CSR) volunteer initiatives are key. Finally, hiring a hub coordinator as a paid staff member is deemed indispensable to effectively support the Hub's launch and ongoing operations.
Minister Heather Humphreys will help launch the study with Gavin Harte of ESD Training, who carried out the feasibility study and local award winning horticulturalist and environmentalist Barry Kavanagh as guest speakers.
