Almost €200K of cannabis seized in Cavan, two arrested
SEIZURES 244 cannabis plants discovered
Gardaí have arrested two men and seized over €195,000 in cannabis plants following searches in the Arva area of Cavan yesterday (Thursday), November 16.
The operation was carried out with a number of local units including the Armed Support Unit and Garda Dog Unit.
Following a search of a residence in Arva, a growhouse was discovered by Gardaí. Some 244 Cannabis plants were seized with an estimated value of €195,200.
Follow up searches were carried out at a number of other locations in Cavan, which resulted in a €2,000 seizure of cannabis herb along with €2,750 in cash.
The drugs will now undergo further analysis with Forensic Science Ireland.
The two men, both aged in their 20s, are currently detained at a Garda Station in Cavan.
This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in 2021.
The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
