Leona playing well at The Ascendant LPGA

In her first outing since Team Europe's incredible Solheim Cup victory, Cavan golfer Leona Maguire is carrying that good form into The Ascendant LPGA.

She is just five shots off the top of the leaderboard, tied for fifth, with South Korea's Hyo Joo Kim (-10) heading into the third round with a two-stroke lead over Paraguay's Sofia Garcia.

Kim has five wins on the LPGA Tour but is searching for her first since April 2022.

Garcia is a rookie on tour who has made only three of 12 cuts this season and has not finished better than a tie for 31st.

USA's Lexi Thompson moves to six under par, tied for third with France's Celine Boutier on -6.

Ballyconnell native Leona shares her position with Spain's Azahara Muñoz, USA's Marina Alex, and Dominican Republic's Maria Torres.

Leona shot a 67, hitting six birdies at the Old American Golf Club in Dallas to keep herself in contention.

A bogey on the par-five sixth was her only mistake.

At the Solheim Cup in Spain Leona was in sparkling form.

The Cavan golfer’s 4 and 3 win over Rose Zhang was the pick of a several impressive back to back performances.
