Historical lecture to take place later this evening

‘On an equal footing with All': Ireland and the League of Nations, 1922 to 1946’ a lecture by Dr. Michael Kennedy takes place later this evening, Thursday, October 5, at 7.30pm in Cavan Town's Johnston Central Library.
The event is part of the Decade of Centenaries commemorations and is being hosted by Cavan Library Service in asociation with Cavan County Council's Historian-in-Residence programme.
This is the first in seeries of lectures set to take place, and is supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the Decade of Centenaries 2012-2023 initiative.
The lecture is being held to commemorate the centenary of the Irish Free State joining the League of Nations on 10 September 1923. The league was founded after the Great War to prevent the outbreak of conflicts.
The Decade of Centenaries commemorations have already featured a 'Webisode' Series with Cavan County Council Historian in Residence Dr Brendan Scott who presented informative talks focusing on historical incidents of note that occurred in Cavan 100 years ago.

Dr Michael Kennedy is a member of the Royal Irish Academy, and is an executive editor with the Documents on Irish Foreign Policy project in the Royal Irish Academy. For nearly thirty years, he has written and published widely on modern Irish history, particularly on military and diplomatic history, and on Irish foreign policy.
Previously he lectured in Irish and European history at Queen's University, Belfast and has also lectured in other institutions.
