ETB to locate Adult Education Services at St Augustine’s
In a bid to “consolidate” all Cavan Town Adult Education to one location in Cavan Town, CMETB has entered into a lease agreement for the historic St Augustine’s Hall.
With plans recently granted by Cavan County Council for a major revamp of the property, to include a new three-storey extension to the rear, CMETB says it will provide a dedicated Adult Education Centre there.
The planning application, submitted by the Parish of Urney and Annagelliff, allows for the demolition of a rear return, and the construction of a three-storey extension to the rear of the property in its place, together with the conservation and refurbishment of internal rooms and all associated site and landscaping works.
Conservation works to the fabric of the existing protected building will also take place including walls, windows, thermal upgrade of portion of building envelope, and an upgrade of mechanical and electrical installations.
The newly extended building will accommodate offices and classrooms, as well as a student canteen.
The plans for the protected structure, which once served as a day seminary, form phase two of a major investment project by the parish, which began with massive investment of close to €2 million at the Cathedral of Saints Patrick & Felim.
A spokesperson for CMETB explained that their Adult Education Services are currently delivered “across a range of locations in Cavan Town. It is preferable to consolidate all Cavan Town Adult Education provision into one location, and CMETB has been working to progress this. It is planned to lease the St Augustine’s building and to locate Adult Education Services there.
“The St Augustine’s property will undergo renovations to create general classrooms, specialist rooms and spaces and offices. This will provide a dedicated Adult Education Centre and an enhanced environment for learners and staff alike.”
