‘The Gallant John-Joe’ Returns
The Gallant John-Joe by Tom MacIntyre comes to Townhall Cavan on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, October 4-6, at 8pm nightly. The performance is presented by DLR Mill Theatre in association with Townhall Cavan by kind permission of the Jonathan Williams Literary Agency.
Winner of The Irish Times Theatre Award for Best New Play in 2002,
The Gallant John-Joe is the extraordinary poetic soliloquy of John Joe Concannon, a Cavan widower, struggling with mental and physical decline.
In this soaring work of great literary magic, he recounts how his world unravels through a rich and wonderfully singular voice, where we can be certain of nothing as the lines blur between what has happened and what has not. In its examination of the older Irish male, its misogyny and xenophobia, the play reveals the deep scars of a man teetering on the edge of the abyss.
Tom MacIntyre, who died in 2019, was one of the most unique, brave, and extraordinary voices working in Irish theatre. DLR Mill Theatre is proud to present five-time Irish Times Theatre Award nominee, Malcolm Adams as John Joe in a production directed by Geoff O’Keeffe.
This compelling performance also features set and costume design by Florentina Burcea, lighting design by Colin Doran, and sound design by Declan Brennan,
Tickets are available online at www.townhallcavan.com or from the theatre box office by phone on 049 438 0494 or in-person, from Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.
