Mullagh Fair Day this Sunday

Looking for a fun family day out this weekend to lap up the last of the summer sunshine?

Head on down to Mullagh for the traditional Mullagh Fair Day.

This year's event is set to take place this Sunday, September 10, and will include include crowd favourites, from the International Welly Throwing Competition, to the popular pig roast, funfair amusements, sheep racing, and everything in between.

The newest Country music sensation and winner of best male vocalist at the 'Keltic Country Music Awards 2023, Kelan Browne is set take the stage, as well as fellow Country Queen Ellen Tinnelly and much more.

All money raised on the day is set to be reinvested in the community, on projects such as Mullagh Sports Centre, Mullagh Community Playground, the People's Park on the Fair Green, the Hill Walk, Mullagh Hall, Mullagh Tidy Towns but to name a few.

The traditional fair was one of the best and biggest in the north east, its proximity to the Virginia Road railway station ensured that cattle purchased in Mullagh could easily be transported to ports in Dublin and Drogheda.

However, the opening of the Mullagh mart in 1957 finally brought to a close a long chapter in the history of Mullagh, since the first charters and licences were granted in 1621.

The Fair Day was revived by the Mullagh Development Committee in 1997 to ensure that the present population of the picturesque east Cavan village kept in touch with their rich historical past.

Admission to the fair is €13 for adults, €5 for students, €25 for a couple and €10 for pensioners. Children under 12 years are free.
