Top tech in Cian’s World
Cian’s Tech World Cavan is the first shop in Ireland to become WISE certified.
With 13 years of experience in the field, owner Cian Donohoe is proud to be “the first in Ireland” with the qualification recognised by major tech companies such as Apple, Samsung, Motorola and Google.
“It’s just to show a level of trust to people,” he explained of the accreditation.
The Apple certified store fixes products within the hour, placing runner-up in the local enterprise awards and was named one of iRadio’s top 10 best businesses in Ireland.
A former graduate of Cavan Institute, Cian began his journey by working in click.ie in Cavan while studying where he “learned his skill” fixing phones and laptops.
The Killygarry man explained he “didn’t really know” what he wanted to do; however he was “into computers”.
“One thing led to another, and doors opened to opportunities,” he beamed.
He moved around different stores to improve his trade before gaining his own space in Harry's Electrical in 2017. He subsequently moved into his own premises next door to Tesco in 2020.
As a retained firefighter, Cian needed a job that he could “drop at a bleep” upon receiving a call.
“If I wanted to do a job alongside it [firefighting] the only chance I had was to open my own business,” he said of the venture.
Cian spoke in the upstairs section of his store located off Cavan’s main street. Pointing to the vast array of space, he hopes to transform the area into a Scooter Land - a scooter and hoverboard showroom. He plans to put a graphic roadway on the ground so people can take their scooters for a test drive before purchasing.
“It just grew rapidly. If you had said to me in 2013 that I'd be sitting in a shop in a prime location in Cavan Town and running it, I would have laughed at you.
“There are plans for expansion - we're hoping to go further afield than Cavan with it,” he said, adding that there will be “plenty happening” in the next few years.
Cian’s Tech World stock Devia accessories including “all certified” power banks, car phone holders, earpieces, Apple watch straps, screen protectors and smart products such as bulbs, plugs, strip lights and security cameras. The store also have a facility custom print pictures on the back of phones, laptops, tablets and the shop sells scooters with their accessories and provides a repair service.
“Our main game is phones,” he said, explaining that phones are pre-owned and not refurbished, which he assured makes a “big difference".
“Pre-owned is all the original parts in the device,” he explained.
