Excitement builds ahead of Arva Show
Show starts 10am.
Rare breed cattle will be among the star attractions as the 64th edition of the Arva Show this Sunday, July 30.
With a start time of 10am, there are over 200 classes across a wide range of competitions.
“We have classes for cattle, sheep, goats, horses, dogs, and home industries,” says Show secretary Alannah Finnegan.
“The cattle will have sections for both pedigree and commercial animals as well as a rare breed section including some rare French breeds and Irish Moiled Cattle.
“The dogs will also be taking part in sheepdog trials and geese herding,” she enthused of the Show which has a relaxed atmosphere and is a firm favourite with families from across the region.
The show day will also feature live music and entertainment from Scoil Rince Tir Chonaill and local bands, while the All-Ireland Final between Kerry and Dublin will be aired on a large screen on the field, while the show ball takes place in the Royal Breffini Hotel with tickets costing €15, available to purchase at the door.
Alannah comes from a longtime involved Arva Show family, and she herself has assisted the committee for 13 years, mostly in the home industry section. This year she takes on the challenging role of secretary for the first time.
“My phone hasn't stopped ringing all week but I'm enjoying the challenge of the new role.”
She is hoping for an improvement on recent rainy conditions.
“Last year was quite wet for most of the day up until 3.30pm when it cleared up.
“We're hoping for it to stay reasonably dry on the day, the weather is the one thing we can't control,” she said.
