Keogan rules himself out of running for Cavan manager role

Former Cavan minor and senior team manager Donal Keogan has ruled himself out of the running for the vacant senior management role.

Rumours have been rife in recent days that the Denn clubman was interested in the position and had been assembling a backroom team. However, speaking to the Anglo-Celt this morning (Friday), the Cavan Town-based based businessman unequivocally ruled himself out.

“I am definitely not going for the job, 100 per cent,” Keogan stated.

Keogan had been nominated for the position of U20 team manager but withdrew from the process, citing a lack of time to put together a backroom team.

Speaking to the Anglo-Celt on Tuesday last, former U21 and senior manager Terry Hyland refused to rule himself out. Jason O’Reilly, Cavan’s leading goalscorer of recent decades and a SFC winner as a manager, expressed similar sentiments, stating simply “Don’t rule me in or out”.

Nominations from the clubs close this Sunday. A sub-committee is to be appointed by the county board and will also potentially seek candidates from outside the county.

Asked if the board had a preference for a local manager or someone from outside the county, chairman Kieran Callaghan said “We are keeping our options open.”
