Something fishy going on in Virginia

Celebrations took place in Virginia last week as one of the town’s most promising businesses finally hosted the grand opening of their premises.

Sushi Mania was officially opened last Thursday, July 13, by paralympian Britney Arendse who cut the ribbon along with the owners Jolita Puksmiene and Bas Wiebenga.

Set up in the town over two years ago, Sushi Mania opened their doors on Main Street last November but they reserved their big day until the success of the company was established. Speaking at the opening, co-owner Jolita Puksmiene said: “At the start we didn’t want to because we cannot celebrate before you actually think it’s going to work. Now we can say it was successful so we are excited to say thank you to our customers and everyone who was part of this.”

Sushi Mania employs six staff members on a full and part-time basis. The delicious sushi restaurant has already made quite a name for itself throughout Cavan and beyond through its presence at various food festivals and shows across Ireland.

However, the owners had been dreaming of their own premises and the ease it would bring to their activities.

“It’s amazing. We’re finally settled. The first year was really hard. We were all over the place. We’re still travelling around the country now with the food festivals and shows, we have our own place to do whatever we want with no restrictions. We can explore the food, Bas can go crazy in the kitchen, we have time because we have 24-hour access. It’s just amazing.”

The opening was attended by many of Sushi Mania’s loyal customers who value the personal touch. “We know customers by name, we know where customers live because we deliver to them. We know where they work and some of their life stories as well. It’s crazy," said Jolita.

While the company sells an array of delicious sushi, many people also visit the new shop to browse the wide range of local produce from other companies for sale there.

“Mostly the range of foods are sourced from locally made products. I think by working with other locals we are supporting other businesses and I think it’s important to be connected and help each other," said Jolita.
