Cavan footballers innocent by-standers as shots fired in Marbella

News

Two Cavan footballers found themselves innocently in the vicinity when an apparent shooting took place in the Spanish tourist resort of Marbella on the Costa Del Sol yesterday.

Cian Madden and Conor Brady, both from Gowna, were on a short break in the Spanish destination and were returning bicycles to a hire shop when shots were fired in what appears to be a gangland-style incident.

Video footage has since emerged and been widely shared, showing the Cavanmen understandably fleeing the scene.

It is understood the video depicts the second round of shots, after a gunman had opened fire moments earlier, possibly prompting a member of the public to video the incident.

Thankfully Cian and Conor, while shocked, were unharmed in the incident and immediately made contact with family to let them know they were safe.

The pair are both starting members of the Cavan and Gowna senior teams. Gowna face fierce rivals Crosserlough this Saturday evening in an eagerly-awaited league semi-final.

Meetings between the sides have been feisty of late but are unlikely to spill over to the extent witnessed by the Gowna lads in Marbella!
