Plans to rehabilitate Ballyjamesduff river
Inland Fisheries Ireland has continued with its plans to rehabilitate and improve local waterways with a new application submitted in respect of a 4km stretch of the Pound River near Ballyjamesduff.
It mirrors a similar submission made to Cavan County Council which has progressed to a full planning application with regards to 800 metre stretch of the Maghera River at Magheraboy Upper, Finea.
The four kilometre stretch of the Pound River takes in the townlands of Ranrenagh, Lattagloghan, Lismeen, Pollafree, Pottle, Lishenry, Lackenduff, Lackenmore, Killyvalley and Aghalattafraal.
Like the Maghera River, works include the removal of some in-stream vegetation, repair and reinstatement of existing in-stream structures, improvement and alteration of flow dynamics by the construction of deflectors and weirs, reinforcement of the river bank in some locations.
They also plan to introduce spawning gravel areas in the hope to improve breeding habitats for trout. An appropriate assessment and an NIS has been submitted
A decision on both applications are due in August.
