Man charged in connection with theft of high end cars

A man is due in court charged in connection with a raid carried out targeting theft of high end cars earlier this week.

The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested in the course of a garda operation. He has now been charged and is due to appear before a sitting of Dublin District Court, Court No. 1 (CCJ) this morning, Friday, June 30.

Gardaí raided a site in Monaghan as part of ongoing investigations targeting organised criminal groups involved in the theft and resale of high end motor vehicles.

The operation was conducted by the Stolen Motor Vehicle Investigation Unit (SMVIU), attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the search was carried out on Wednesday, June, 28.

'Operation Shannon' is an ongoing investigation led by the SMVIU targeting organised criminal groups engaged in the theft and resale of high end vehicles, and is supported by counterfeit vehicle registration documentation.

In the course of the operation in Monaghan a stolen van bearing false registration plates was recovered.

The man had been detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda Station in County Monaghan.

“Investigations are ongoing,” said a spokesperson for An Garda Siochana.
