Drumnaveil issues highlighted
Issues with Drumnaveil housing estate were highlighted at a recent Bailieborough Cootehill Municipal District Meeting.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Aiden Fitzpatrick put forward the motion stating that, in November, the council had promised residents of the estate that money would be made available “soon”.
He outlined those living in the estate are “beginning to get fed up” waiting for the essential works to be completed.
“Cars are flying through the estate,” he said, making reference to the need for footpaths, a yield sign and ramps.
In response, senior executive engineer Alan Lyons acknowledged the commitment given during the meeting with residents and explained that the council is “trying to pin down contractors”.
He persisted saying the issue was “on our radar, on our things to do,” but it is “just challenging” finding the people to do it.
Cllr Fitzpatrick then highlighted a graveyard located at the rear of the estate where antisocial behaviour is a major problem.
He asked the engineer if a discretionary grant could aid the situation.
Mr Lyons responded: “We’ll look into that”.
Sinn Féin Councillor Paddy McDonald supported the motion, suggesting the council “make a start on the small things to show we are working with them”.
