Transparency required from RTÉ - Minister Humphreys
Minister Heather Humphreys has called for more transparency in RTÉ.
The Fine Gael minister made the comments speaking to The Anglo-Celt today following the controversy about RTÉ controversial payments to presenter Ryan Tubridy.
The former Late Late Show presenter was paid €345,000 above his annual published salary over a period between 2017 and 2022. The payments had not been disclosed by RTÉ.
"There's questions to be answered here, we need to find out the story behind the headlines we're looking at today," said Minister Humphreys. "The most important thing about our public service broadcaster is that it needs to be transparent, open and honest in the information that it provides."
She went on to say that the Government would be seeking answers on the matter from the broadcaster.
"It's difficult for the workers in RTÉ today, any organisation depends on honesty and openness and we expect that across the different agencies of the state and we expect no less from RTÉ.
"I know that Minister (for Media) Catherine Martin will be engaging with them to get the full facts."
