Eighty-seven clubs and groups in Co Cavan get community funding
Almost €270,000 in funding has been allocated to 87 groups and organisations across County Cavan under the Community Support Fund 2022.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, announced the successful projects this morning and the clubs and projects to benefit include community halls, men's and women's sheds, sports clubs and charities.
The grants allocated in County Cavan range from €300 to €8,500 with the Cuan Cancer Care Group in Cavan getting the highest allocation in the Breffni county. Many organisations got in the region of €7,000 from the €10M national fund.
A total of €100,000 of the overall funding was ring-fenced specifically to support Women’s Sheds. The key theme of the fund is to support groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, with their energy bills, as well as with improvements to their facilities.
Minister Humphreys made the announcement at an event in Killinkere GAA Club, which was attended by many of the recipients of funding. The host club was among the beneficiaries receiving a grant of €7,000.

Announcing the successful projects for Co Cavan, Minister Humphreys said: “Through ‘Our Rural Future’, I want to support locally led, ground-up projects in local communities across the country. This funding is all about giving a helping hand to our local groups and clubs with their energy costs, whether it’s the electricity bill, insurance costs or other overheads.
“While these grants are small in nature, they can make a big difference by allowing local community organisations to carry out much needed works in their area.”
She praised the volunteers in these groups and organisations for their hard work to "keep the lights on and run fantastic local services and events for young and old to enjoy".
The Minister also thanked Cavan County Council and Local Community Development Committee for their assistance in administering this fund.
The Community Support Fund is a once off fund provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development and administered by Local Community Development Committees, with support from the local authority, in each area.
