Local favourites Marcus Magee and the Hollaw Men will be a highlight of Cavan Calling as they present ‘A Night of Cavan Songs’

Tickets on sale for Cavan Calling events

Tickets for an array of events taking place at the Cavan Calling Diaspora Homecoming Festival from July 26-30 have gone on sale via Cavan Calling’s website.

Following the swift sell-out of tickets for The Boomtown Rats concert on July 29, there is sure to be strong demand for events including Marcus Magee and the Hollaw Men Performing ‘A Night of Cavan Songs’ at Ramor Theatre, the Songs and Poems of Percy French at Ramor Theatre, concerts by Vltalva String Quartet at African Gospel Choir, Dublin at Urney Church, Cavan, and ‘In Anxious Expectation – a Two Day Consideration of Migration and the Search for the Elusive Ancestor’, a genealogy conference taking place at Johnston Central Library.

“After two recent sold out shows of their original music at both the Townhall Theatre Cavan and Ramor Theatre Virginia, Marcus Magee and The Hollaw Men have been working on something totally different, a night of classic Cavan songs. Taking place at the Ramor Theatre on Thursday, July 27, at 8pm, this is not to be missed.

Vltava String Quartet have wowed audiences everywhere they played, from Electric Picnic, to performing for President Michael D Higgins. They will play an intimate show in the gorgeous surrounds of Urney Church, Farnham Street Cavan on Saturday, July 29, at 1pm.

Urney Church will also play host to the uplifting vocal stylings of the African Gospel Choir Dublin for their performance on Thursday, July 27, at 8pm. The 15-member, all-volunteer choir of African descent was founded in 2008 by Adeniyi Allen-Taylor and blends elements of African Gospel, spirituals, acapella and American popular music.

Laugh, sing, and maybe even shed a tear with the Percy French Troubadours, who invite you to join with them for this evening of songs, poems, and sketches by Percy French as part of our Cavan Calling 2023 celebrations. Featuring all-time favourites, ‘Come Back Paddy Reilly’, ‘Are Ye Right There Michael?’ and many more, they come to Ramor Theatre on Friday, July 28, at 8pm.

As a celebration of Cavan Diaspora, genealogy is at the heart of Cavan Calling. The desire to know who we are and from whence we came is strong in all of us, particularly those of Irish descent living or born overseas. ‘In Anxious Expectation – a Two Day Consideration of Migration and the Search for the Elusive Ancestor’, which takes place on July 26-27, will feature a fascinating array of talks from local and international experts as well as ancestry workshops and a special traditional Irish music concert to close proceedings.
