Cloudy with showers today and some dry intervals

Weather update from Met Éireann

Mixed weather with some rain and showers but with dry intervals as well. Temperatures reaching the mid to high teens in mostly light winds.

That's the weather prognosis for the next few days from Met Éireann.

Mostly cloudy at first this morning with some patchy rain or drizzle, mainly in the north. Showery rain will develop in the southwest, extending northeastwards through the morning and afternoon, driest generally in the west and north. The rain will turn heavy locally with a chance of spot flooding. Light to moderate southeasterly winds will freshen near southern coasts before backing northwesterly. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.

The last of the persistent rain will clear eastwards early tonight, becoming largely dry with clear spells. Some isolated patches of light rain or drizzle will follow, mainly for Atlantic counties. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees generally, cooler locally in parts of Leinster and east Ulster. Light variable breezes, falling calm at times, will allow fog patches to develop.

A good deal of dry weather tomorrow morning with sunny spells and just isolated patches of light rain and drizzle. During the afternoon, scattered showers will break out, turning heavy locally. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees in light southwesterly or variable breezes.

Clear spells on Friday night give way to mostly cloudy conditions building from the west, along with outbreaks of rain. Temperatures not falling below 7 to 11 degrees in light variable breezes with fog patches developing.

Mostly cloudy Saturday morning with some patchy light rain or drizzle. Good sunny spells will develop during the morning and afternoon along with scattered showers, possibly turning heavy in the northeast. Highest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees in light southwesterly or variable breezes.

Clear spells and scattered showers at first on Saturday night before cloudier conditions and showery rain moves in from the west. Temperatures again not falling below 7 to 11 degrees in light southerly or variable breezes.

Showery rain Sunday morning will continue to clear eastwards to leave a day of sunny spells and widespread showers, some heavy. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees, coolest along Atlantic coasts as light southwesterly breezes gradually increase moderate westerly. The showers will become more isolated early in the night with cloud build in from the northwest. Temperatures not falling below 7 to 10 degrees.

Looking ahead to the bank holiday Monday, sunny spells and scattered showers for the morning and afternoon, with most areas becoming dry towards evening as the showers largely die out. Highest temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees generally in a mostly light northwesterly wind.

Further outlook: Current indications suggest that there will be a good deal of dry weather through midweek at least with just some showers. Temperatures continuing to reach the mid to high teens with mostly light winds.
