Work also underway at St Bricin's College in Belturbet.

New classrooms for St Aidan’s

The Minister for Education, Norma Foley, has approved the provision of two mainstream classrooms for St Aidan's Comprehensive School in Cootehill.

The decision was welcomed by Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD, Brendan Smith.

“I wish to compliment the Principal, Marianne Smith, and her staff colleagues, the Board of Management and the Parents' Association in submitting a successful application," he said.

“I will continue to support the school community in their ongoing work to have additional facilities provided at St Aidan's,” stated Deputy Brendan Smith.

It is one of a number of school improvements taking place across the county, with the design team appointed to oversee the extension to Coláiste Dún an Rí in Kingscourt, its third since it first opened in 2017, currently awaiting feedback from the department before progressing.

Meanwhile, plans to extend Breifne College in Cavan Town have stalled, but ETB board members were told at a recent meeting held in Ballybay that movement was expected on the project in the “next two months”.

Planning was meanwhile received by St Bricin’s in Belturbet to erect a first floor rear extension to accommodate a new disabled toilet. Retention has also been sought to retain and continue to use a single-storey, two-classroom prefabricated block previously approved in 2016.

The installation of new modular accommodation in Belturbet’s is well underway, and should be opened in time for the start of the new school term in September.

Elsewhere St Mogue’s in Bawnboy hopes to add four new specialist classrooms by way of modular accommodation on site (Art, Music, Science and Woodwork) plus one SET room.

In Virginia finally, a design team has taken on board comments with regards proposals to build nine new general classrooms, two SET rooms, three Science labs, two prep areas, and four SEN base classrooms. The project is at 'Detailed Design' stage.
