A new Cavan business aimed at promoting GAA players to find employment in their home county has already seen huge success.

GAA Works was founded by Cavan men Rod Sheils and Padraig Byrne, who were disappointed by the number of GAA teams struggling due to players being forced to leave the county in search of work.

Speaking about the company’s progress business development manager, Kevin Meehan, explains: “Our goal is to link local talent with local business, making career choices easier and helping employers to hire the right people for their business.”

With almost 2,000 GAA clubs in Ireland, 500 more globally and over 100,000 registered players, GAAWorks.ie Player Pathway employment initiative seeks to help young players fulfill their ambitions working close to home for the betterment of the community while continuing to represent their local GAA teams.

Kevin’s belief is that GAA players possess a multitude of skills that are career transferable.

“GAA players can be valuable assets to any business - competitive, loyal, disciplined and hard working. At GAAWorks.ie we want to help build a community within the GAA where we support the players, their clubs and local business.

“We are a rapidly-expanding, start-up and one of our biggest challenges is to make people aware of the platform,” continues the business manager.

“The more jobs we can advertise, the better chance it gives to GAA club members to fulfil their employment ambitions locally. We encourage any local business to get in touch and we will be glad to provide a free demo to show how they can benefit.”

The motivation behind GAA Works piqued the interest of Minister for Rural & Community Development, Heather Humphreys, who recently paid a visit to GAAWorks.ie

In line with, Our Rural Future, the Government's rural development policy, GAAWorks.ie seeks to highlight, through local support, how communities throughout the country can become vibrant again.

The website enables any business to register in a Local Business Directory, encouraging GAA members to seek out and support their local businesses.
