Plan for N55 progresses
A plan to provide pavement overlay on the N55 Cavan to Longford border is progressing with tenders invited by Cavan County Council.
The tender issued refers to works for complete or part construction and civil engineering work, road markings, control, safety, signalling and light equipment, road signs, demolition, site preparation and clearance work, as well as excavating and earthmoving work.
It also seeks suitable applicants capable to construct work for highways, roads, surface work for roads, reinforced concrete and masonry work, as well as the installation of signs.
The deadline for submissions is April 4.
Work began recently on the latest phase of the N55 realignment.
The council accepted the bid of Clare Civil Engineering Ltd to undertake construction of the N55 Corduff to South of Killydoon - Section B project.
The project involves the construction of 3.7km of a route improvement scheme for the N55, and works are expected to take 24 months to complete.
The new road will link two previously upgraded sections. Five new side roads will link with the old N55 and the realignment of two existing side roads are also included in the plans.
Three new bridges over the River Erne, site clearance, and drainage works are included, along with traffic calming measures for Killydoon village.
The first two phases of work on the N55 realignment have already been completed with the Ballinagh to Ballytrust section finished in 2018.
