For the first time, Cavan senior footballers and hurlers will both contest national finals on the same day. Today, the hurlers meet Leitrim at the National Games Development Centre in Abbotstown (throw-in, 3pm), with the Cavan senior footballers taking on Fermanagh in the National League Division 3 decider at 7.15pm in Croke Park.

The hurlers already defeated Leitrim in the group while the footballers lost out to an impressive Fermanagh last Sunday in round seven of the league.

The footballers are warm favourites to get over the line and the hurlers are slight underdogs, with championship quickly coming down the tracks.

Cavan manager Mickey Graham gave a positive injury update following Sunday’s disappointing loss, with Crosserlough duo Dara McVeety and Paddy Lynch and Lavey’s Gerard Smith all missing out last time.

A buoyant Fermanagh, who include in their ranks St Patrick’s College’s 2015 MacRory Cup-winning joint captain Cian McManus, are greatly improved since Cavan comfortably beat them in the Tailteann Cup last year and a close contest is expected as Cavan return to HQ for the first time since the Tailteann Cup final last year and the fifth time since 2020 at senior level.

Meanwhile, the Virginia College U16 ladies footballers take on St Mary's from Naas in the All-Ireland Schools C final. Throw-in for that game, also at Abbotstown, is 3.30pm.
