Last chances to catch remarkable performances of Grease
REVIEW: Stunning show continues tonight and tomorrow
St Patrick’s College is the place to be this weekend as they host the final two performances of Grease - it's electrifying.
The St Pat's students are joined by talented performers and singers from the Royal School, Loreto College and Breifne College in creating the world of Rydell High School, 1959.
The Celt was amongst the capacity audience in the gym, which was an appropriate setting for the high school musical. The singing was breath-taking by all of the performers.
Conor Lynch excelled as the uber-cool Danny. The Swellan lad has an amazing voice and a swaggering stage presence. The St Pat's student is a star of the present let alone the future.
Anyone who had caught Breifne College's Martha Spring in the Townhall Theatre panto Cinderella earlier this year knew they were in for a treat as she took on the role of Sandy. To pick one song by Martha is nearly impossible, as the Butlersbridge native is genuinely fabulous throughout, from her Summer Nights duet to the tender Hopelessly Devoted.
Two of the supporting cast threatened to steal the show as Oisin Lynch was hilarious in his portrayal of geeky Eugene, while Brian Murphy, who played the teen angel, sang a simply divine solo that blew everyone away.
Across the cast the ability of these young performers was only matched by their confidence. Musically it's no surprise that, under Ciaran Tackney direction, the multi-award winning musicians involved matched the exquisite quality of singing.
The transitions between scenes were as slick as Danny's hair, with the stage silently reconfigured with military precision while stars took solos in the spotlight.
Funny yet heart-wrenching at times, and with an unbeatable rock n’ roll soundtrack, this production of Grease could be the ents highlight of the year.
Grease! continues tonight March 31 and April 1. Tickets, only €12, are available from the St Pat’s school office, Maxol, Cullies and Multisound.
