Kevin's smooth moves see him through

Gowna's Kevin McGahern has survived the public vote to dance another day on RTE's Dancing With The Stars.

As it was a movie-themed week on the show, the comedian danced a graceful American Smooth with his partner Laura Nolan to 'Pure Imagination' from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Kevin and Laura's performance scored an impressive 21 out of 30 from the judges, an improvement from the 17 they scored the previous week. The judges were full of praise for Kevin's performance but they still feel he can improve on his routine in the coming weeks.

Lorainne Barry said: "It was very stylish. I just wanted a bit more sparkle, more volume!"

Brian Redmond remarked: "You’re a little bit of an enigma, because you’re actually good at the difficult things. The things we don’t normally expect the celebs to get good at, you’re already pretty good at. You’re going in the right direction – but enjoy it more."

Kevin has garnered a lot of local support with Gowna GAA, where his brother Ryan captained the side to lift the Oliver Plunkett Cup in 2022, as well as Cavan GAA tweeting their support for him.

Former state pathologist Marie Cassidy became the second celebrity to be voted off the show last Sunday. Marie and her professional partner Stephen Vincent had danced the Foxtrot, scoring 15 points from the judges, which unfortunately didn’t prove enough to continue on their dancing journey.

Afterwards, Marie said: “I had the best partner and I’m just sorry he has to go with me!”
