Vehicle Lights Parade is back!
A vehicle light parade is set to light up Cavan Town later this month as a convoy of cars, tractors and everything in between, decorated in festive lights will travel around the town.
The annual event, starting from Cavan Equestrian Centre, will take place on Sunday, December 18.
"It’s fantastic , it’s a great family event,” says spokesperson for the event, Kevin Smith. “It’s nearly the kickstart of Christmas. That’s why it’s changed to the 18th this year because it’s only the week before Christmas. It’s going to be better than ever.”
The event has been most successful in previous years, with over 500 tractors taking part last year.
“Hopefully this year will be as big as last year. There were over 500 vehicles last year and hopefully we’ll have more than that. To date we have €250,000 raised for numerous charities,” said Kevin.
This year, the event is raising money for the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, Cuan Cancer Support Group and the Vincent McGee Benefit Fund.
“Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust does some great work bringing hope and comforting families and making sure their loved ones get home from all over the world. To date, the Kevin Bell Trust has helped 65 families in Cavan and Monaghan and this year is actually one of the most busy years making sure to bring people home.
“Cuan Cancer Support Services, they are also doing fantastic work within the county and the new headquarters in Cavan there behind Aldi and they help families and patients themselves by supporting them through the difficult times when people are off sick.”
This year's event will kick off from Cavan Equestrian Centre at 4.30pm. All entries must arrive before 4pm. The convoy will make its way through Cavan Town at approximately 5 o’clock.
“I’d like to thank everybody who's involved and the Clarke family who give us the Equestrian grounds, it wouldn’t happen without them, and the gardaí and the local businesses as well.”
Kevin concluded by asking the public to support the event in any way they can. “It’s a great family event, it’s an annual event and it would be great if everyone could come out and support it and raise a few pounds for charity and have a good evening as well.”
