€500 lump sum payment to carers this week
Almost 1,900 carers in Cavan are set to received a €500 lump sum payment this week to help ease cost of living pressures.
Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, confirmed the payments this morning aimed at supporting over 114,500 carers nationally.
This payment is one of eight lump sum payments designed to support families and households over the winter months.
The €500 Carer’s Support payment will be received in carer’s bank accounts on Thursday, at a total cost of €57.3 million to the exchequer.
This payment is in addition to the annual Carer’s Support Grant of €1,850 paid earlier this year.
And Minister Humphreys confirmed that 1,894 carers in Cavan will receive the support.
The Cavan Monaghan TD said: “I want to take this opportunity to thank all carers in Ireland for the vital and valuable contribution you play in our society and in our local communities. our commitment and work in supporting those that need help and support is hugely important and is greatly appreciated.”
The payment is being made automatically to people receiving a Carer's Allowance, Carer's Benefit or Domiciliary Care Allowance payment.
Fine Gael Senator Joe O'Reilly also welcomed the payments.
“We know the cost of living is rising and it is more expensive to do the weekly shop, fuel your car, pay your bills, and make ends meet. This range of payments will assist those most vulnerable as we approach a cold winter," he said.
