A creepy and kooky musical
COMEDY Award winning Tullyvin Musical Society stage The Addams Family
Gemma Kettle
For four nights this month Tullyvin welcomes the neighbours from hell to their community!
The local community centre and hall have once more become the base for an ambitious musical production by the award winning Tullyvin Musical Society. The décor has to be seen to be believed as the audience is taken inside the Addams' Family residence with all its ghoulish grandeur. The experience promises to transport audiences to another world, one where the Addams' domestic harmony is thrown into turmoil.
Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family – a man her parents have never met. And if it wasn’t upsetting enough, Wednesday confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.
Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before – keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia.
Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
The large cast of locals, boasts a noticeable injection of younger blood which bodes well for the group's future. The strong principal cast and ensemble will act, sing and dance their way through this frighteningly funny show. Following auditions, rehearsals started in August and many hours have been spent preparing, practising and perfecting every element to ensure a top class show.
Live orchestra
The familiar faces will be joined by a thrilling live orchestra to help bring the show to life. The creative team is brimming with talent, led by AIMS All-Ireland winning Director Paul ‘Nippy’ Norton. He is joined by Musical Director John Roe, Choral Mistress Thomasina McGinnity, Choreographer Julienne McNamara and Dance Captain Astra O’Leary overseeing every note and move. It promises to deliver a spectacular show.
A huge behind the scenes team has excelled itself: the stage crew, set and props designers, costume designers, hair and make-up, front of house assistants and promotions team.
“This year’s show has been a long time coming," says Pamela McCormack, Tullyvin Musical Society chairperson of their fifth musical. "We are really looking forward to it.
“It has been a very hard year for me personally with the loss of my daughter and although it’s been very hard, the show has a massive distraction, for not only me and my daughters, who are taking to the Tullyvin stage for the first time, but also for my husband, who has been helping with building of the set and acting as a stage hand.
“The arts are so important in so many different ways but it has become so apparent in recent months for me.”
Thanks
Tullyvin Musical Society were eager to express their gratitude to their very many supporters, and the local businesses and sponsors who came on board.
“Thank you to all who helped in any way in bringing this script to stage.
Thanks to family and friends who accommodate all that goes with the demands of numerous rehearsals. And thank you to all the volunteers who assist over the show days. It is obvious that without all this support and belief, this production would not be possible,” enthused Pamela on behalf of the Society.
