Brady elected ETB Chair
Cootehill’s Carmel Brady was elected the new Chair of CMETB, with both Cathaoirleach and Leas-Cathaoirleach posts now held by Fine Gael Councillors.
At a meeting of the board, held in Monaghan’s Garage Theatre, outgoing Chair Colm Carthy said it had been “an honour and a privilege” to have held the role for the past year.
“During my time in the Chair I’ve gotten to see a lot more of the hard work done behind the scenes by our executive and have had the pleasure of meeting a number of our very talented staff throughout both counties.”
The Sinn Féin Councillor from Carrickmacross thanked board members for their support over the year, while praising the work of the organisation and schools.
Councillor Brady, who has served on the board for the past eight years, has served as deputy chair for the past 12 months.
In nominating her for the post, party colleague Madeleine Argue described her as a “hard worker” and praised her dedication to the organisation. She was seconded by Fianna Fáil Councillor Seán Smith and elected unopposed.
In accepting the post, Cllr Brady joked she “didn’t recognise” the person being spoken of in the nominations.
“I’m looking forward to getting to work. CMETB is a wonderful family. I didn’t realise all it did until I was on the board. The children are the be all and end all.”
Fine Gael Councillor from Castleblayney Aidan Campbell was elected unopposed as deputy chair.
Both received the well wishes of board members and the executive for the year ahead.
