Cavan Credit Union launches new current accounts
Cavan Credit Union’s new debit card and current account service will be launched this Friday morning, September 16, with Minister Heather Humphreys, herself a former Credit Union manager, on hand to perform the honours.
Speaking to The Anglo-Celt, Therese Conway, CEO of Cavan Credit Union, said there was growing demand from their members for the facilities.
“In response to member demand, and in direct response to the impending withdrawal of Ulster Bank and KBC from the Irish financial market, Cavan Credit Union is delighted to be able to now offer our members the benefits of a current account and debit card, that can be used anywhere in Ireland or abroad,” she said.
Therese advised: “We have a dedicated member of staff in charge of the current account offering. Danielle Quigley, a long-serving member of staff with excellent banking knowledge, has been appointed Member Services Manager and her role includes meeting those who wish to open a current account and taking them through the process. This includes joining them up as a member of Cavan Credit Union, if they aren’t already one, and assisting them in switching over any payments they have with their existing current account provider.”
Speaking to the Celt, Danielle further explained: “we have been offering our members the current account service since the beginning of July. We now have over 400 members with the MYCU debit card and current account. The feedback to date has been very positive. Members are happy that the card and the current account allows them to bank in exactly the same way as they did with their previous bank.
“Of course, at the moment, we are mostly opening accounts for those that are switching from Ulster Bank and they are very satisfied that they will have the same comprehensive service with ourselves. This service includes a worldwide recognised debit mastercard, providing access to money 24/7 anywhere in Ireland or abroad.”
Fees are competitive
“New current account holders are also pleasantly surprised with our fees, which are a competitive monthly fee of €5, which includes five free ATM cash withdrawals per month and all contactless payments are free,” said Danielle.
She further pointed out that in keeping with the Credit Union’s strong community and social ethos, that there is no monthly fee for members over the age of 65 or for full-time students from the age of 16 years.
To open a current account with Cavan Credit Union, there are a number of straight forward options from opening a new account online or through the CavanCU App, or in the branch by making an appointment with Danielle. Currently, there is a two to three day wait time for appointments.
Therese finished is urging people to come along to the launch event.
“We would love to see as many people as possible, at the launch next Friday morning. The launch will run from 10am to 1pm, with all welcome. Northern Sound will be broadcasting live on the day and there will be refreshments, some goodies and a raffle for members on the day.”
