Leona earns third straight Top 10 finish
Cavan golfer finishes -13 overall
Leona Maguire earned her third straight top 10 finish with a strong final round at the Dana Open in Ohio.
The Cavan golfer started the day -11 and just several shots behind the leaders going into the final day.
She had carded an impressive -5 on Saturday to leave keenly positioned to mount a serious challenge against 19-year-old American Lucy Li (-14), who was followed closely by her country compatriot Lexi Thompson and German Caroline Masson on -13.
On a difficult day for the leaders she was overtaken by Mexico's Gaby Lopez who played herself into winning contention with an impressive -8 to end -18 overall, followed by Megan Khang who carded a -7 (-17), while Masson held strong to maintain third overall with a -3 (-16).
Leona shared tenth position with Aussie Hannah Green -2 (-13) who she started the day of tied sixth with, and Spain's Carlota Ciganda -3 (-13).
The 27 year old was hoping to carry her strong play from yesterday (Saturday) into the final round, but had a horror start with a double bogey on the first.
Yet the one time LPGA tour winner managed to steady the ship with some important Pars, and then got to work scoring with back to back birdies to round out the first nine on 7, 8 and 9.
A birdie on 13 gave the her hope before a bogey 15 all but paid to that charge.
For her week's work Leona earns $33,167.
