€10k grants for west Cavan schools
Two national schools in west Cavan benefitted from grants of €10,000 each this week as a new partnership teed-off between star golfer Leona Maguire and the Irish Amercian Partnership.
The Irish American Partnership awarded €10,000 grants to St Patrick’s National School in Corlough and St Patrick’s National School in Castletara in honour of Leona’s parents Declan and Breda Maguire, who are principals of the two primary schools.
Leona, who is now officially an ambassador for the Partnership, proudly presented the two grants at the launch event, which took place on Monday, August 15. The allocation was through the partnership’s hallmark O’Neill Direct Grants to Schools Program.
The US Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin, visited St Patrick’s National School in Corlough this week as part of Leona Maguire’s induction to the Irish American Partnership.
In her new capacity as ambassador, Leona is set to champion the Irish American Partnership’s mission, specifically its efforts to ensure schools across the island have adequate resources to educate and inspire.
Sixty-five schools across Ireland have seen $250,000 in funding as part of the Partnership’s 2022 grants to date.
CEO Mary Sugrue; US Ambassador Claire Cronin and her husband Ray, and Partnership Board member and chair of its Golf Championship Series Aidan Browne, were also present at the event. Also on hand to mark the occasion was Leona’s sister Lisa.
“We are so grateful to the Irish American Partnership for the grant awarded to both St Patrick’s National School Corlough and St Patrick’s National School Castletara. The funds will be used to invest back into several initiatives to benefit all the pupils and we are delighted to hear that many other schools will also receive the generous funding over the coming years. It really is so very generous,” said Breda Maguire, principal at the Corlough school.
