Cavan peace projects to receive €4.3m boost
Cavan is set to receive €4.3m under the new peace building funding.
The major funding stream, which aims to promote cross border reconciliation after the conflict in the North, comes through the new Peace Plus programme.
Minister Humphreys confirmed to the council in writing that an indicative allocation of €4,334,408 is to be provided to the council, representing an increase of 38.5% on the funding previously allocated to the county under the Peace IV programme.
In total, over €1.145 billion is being committed under Peace Plus – more than double the allocation provided under the previous programme. In the Republic, it will support projects in Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo and Louth.
The funding will be provided to community groups that deliver projects on a cross-community basis.
While the Programme cannot be launched until agreement is in place with the UK Government, it’s understood Minister Humphreys told Cavan County Council to begin engagement with local stakeholders to identify potential projects to be prioritised.
She also told the council there will be further Peace Plus funding opportunities in the future under her Department of Rural and Community Development.
