Fundraiser is the cat's pyjamas
Blacklion is the venue for a novel charity fundraiser to help out our feline friends. Joan’s Arc Animal Sanctuary in Glangevlin is dedicated to providing sanctuary and rehabilitation to abused and dislocated animals. The registered charity cares for 65 cats, seven dogs and one horse. To raise funds, the sanctuary is holding a fundraising event on Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26, at The Market House, Blacklion, where there will be a pop-up charity shop and grand raffle.
Volunteer Nuala McNulty explained why they are holding the fundraiser: “The money raised will go toward the care of the animals; food, bedding and vet bills. People have been very generous in their donations so there will be great bargains on offer and some fabulous prizes in the draw. The support has been great, people can be very bighearted when it comes to paying bills for a bunch of kittens!” Nuala said.
The sanctuary has been run by Joan Emin for over 20 years. She previously worked with Cats Protection in the UK before moving to Glangevlin: “She has a great set up for the animals,” Nuala tells. “She operates a TNR programme, that is trap, neuter and release. She arranges the neutering of colonies of feral cats, bringing them to vets and making sure they are healthy before they are released back to their home environment.”
Raffle tickets, priced at €2 or three for €5, can be purchased at the event or via the Facebook site: @Joansarcanimalsanctuary
