Bus Éireann services criticised
Buses are the only form of public transport in Cavan.
People in Cavan are being “let down” by Bus Éireann services and the Transport Minister has been urged to improve the situation.
Speaking in the Dáil in recent days, local Fianna Fáil TD Niamh Smyth said people “depend” on bus services as they are the only form of public transport in the county.
“We depend on it for the airport, we depend on it for hospital appointments”, she said.
She criticised the services provided by Bus Éireann, claiming they regularly “fail to turn up or turn up too late”.
Deputy Smyth also criticised the prolonged closure of the bus station in Cavan town, calling for its prompt reopening.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, who was taking questions in the Dáíl, was called on to “make an intervention” with the state owned company to ensure a “reliable form of transport that people can depend on”.
The Tánaiste said he wasn’t aware of the situation in Cavan but said he would pass the concerns to the Transport Minister.
