Pool manager thanks community for support
It has been a turbulent year-and-a-half for Bailieborough Swimming and Leisure Centre - Covid lockdown left the local facility financially-stricken and in desperate need of outside support.
Now, however, with the easing of restrictions, the Bailieborough centre is in rude health.
When facility first closed to the public at the start of the pandemic, the centre had €85,000 in its coffers. But with costs of up to €6,000 per month to maintain the complex, those reserves were quickly drained.
Luckily, the centre was the recipient of significant grant support to help tide things over. Since then the centre's manager, Linda Ledwith, says business has been "very busy".
"We're flying now, it's doing good, and we're trying to do our best to cater for the numbers coming through the doors at this stage," she adds.
Paying tribute to the centre's "brilliant" board of management for successfully steering the ship through turbulent times, Linda regards: "Everyone has been wonderful, from the community supporting us, to our board of management, our local TDs for recognising the value that this centre provides to the town, and our own local elected councillors as well."
